Letās do something different. Experimenting is like dipping French fries in a milkshake. Itās different at first. But after a couple times, you kind of like it. And after that, youāre hooked. š
I started off sharing writing opportunities and always will (just scroll down).
But I also want to start sharing success stories. Many of you have shared your successes with me. I always find them so inspiring. Sometimes I feel selfish for keeping these to myself, so I'm going to share them with you.
The first story is from Simran, a copywriter.
Hereās her route to freelance copywriting and landing her dream job.
The journey
When Simran started her freelancing journey, she had no idea where to go so she went where we all do: Google.
Now, Google did a great job of doing what it does best: hammering her with ads. After she picked herself up and dusted herself off, she noticed a freelance coaches offering free webinars. She signed up for one for beginners from a copywriting coach. It must have been convincing: she ended up buying the full program.
The course taught Simran about the power of networking, specifically on Facebook. Hereās what she did next:
ā¢ Optimised her Facebook page to catch potential clientsā eyes
ā¢ Joined relevant Facebook groups (Women In Marketing, Working Mothers etc)
ā¢ Gave out *free* copywriting services in exchange for testimonials
ā¢ Prepared a portfolio (check it out here)
ā¢ Provided more free content (e.g. how to write better copy, copywriting for beginners, using copy sell your products, etc)
ā¢ Started cold outreach (limit to 5-10 cold DMs a month to avoid spam flags)
Eventually people started noticing Simran. She made more connections.
[This is why I stress the importance of networking].
Soon, potential clients started approaching Simran directly. A few became clients, others were scared away after talking $. Ā After a few months of networking, she was approached by someone hiring. They agreed scope and rates.
Now sheās got her dream copywriting job!
The lesson
So how did she land her current role? Persistence. This didnāt happen overnight and she gave away so much free content to build her reputation.
Again, if youāre interested, check out her portfolio here.
Do you find this useful or have a story you want to share? Let me know!
Now letās get onto the opps
